When is the Queensland smoke alarm deadline?
Existing private homes, townhouses, units and manufactured homes need compliant interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms by 1 January 2027. Properties being sold or leased may already have obligations that apply sooner.
Where do the alarms need to go?
Alarms are required in every bedroom, in hallways connecting bedrooms with the rest of the home, and on every storey. Where there is no connecting hallway, placement depends on the layout. We can check your home and explain exactly what’s needed.
Do all smoke alarms need to be hardwired?
Queensland Fire Department says compliant alarms can be hardwired with a secondary power source or powered by a non-removable 10-year battery. The right option depends on your property, its existing alarms and construction requirements.
Can you help property managers and landlords?
Absolutely. We can coordinate with tenants, assess existing alarms, complete the required electrical work and keep property managers updated.
How much will it cost?
Smoke alarms start from $135 each, supplied and installed, including testing, certification and all compliance documentation. We install new alarms throughout the property. Your final alarm quantity and installation requirements will be confirmed on site by our licensed electrician.
